A few notes about charging the Dewalt 18v battery

Is charging the Dewalt 18 volts battery proving to be a nightmare to you? Okay this is a review that will offers you some insight on how to do it effectively. Dewalt batteries have been in the market for a long time now. There are numerous versions designed to meet customer needs. Dewalt 18v battery is one of them. Many people find performing some processes on this type quite tricky as it is not as other earlier versions. When one buys the battery, it mostly comes with its specific dewalt charger. It is advisable to stick to this charger when charging it as it may not suit some types of chargers in the market. The good thing is that most dewalt chargers have been designed to handle batteries from 12v-18v. here is how to simply charge the battery.

How to charge it:
If you have been using the battery, then let it discharge first. You can then remove the battery once you feel its power is fully lost. When doing this, don’t tape ON the trigger.
After removing it, let it sit outside for at least 2 hours. Leave it to rest at room temperature and off the dewalt charger.
Place it in the charger and leave it to charge for over 8 hours; preferably overnight. This is to allow each cell to adequately get charged. If the run time is showing some variations, then the likelihood of damage or the battery might have reached the end of its usable life.

What if the battery is new?
The procedure of charging the new battery is slightly different. This is due to the fact that one needs to condition the battery to enhance longevity. Conditioning is simply charging and discharging to extreme limits. In any of these cases, place it in the charger for the same time. After fully charging it, one is supposed to discharge it again. Repeat this cycle twice or thrice to avoid damaging the life of its cells. Most people find it confusing on whether the dewalt 18v battery will be damaged if left in the charger even after being fully charged. Does it really hurt?

Does leaving it in the charger hurt?
The unique thing with this battery  is that its charger has a maintenance mode. This makes it possible for the user to leave it in the charger when fully charged without damage. Additionally, if you store dewalt Nicad batteries outside the charger, they discharge at 15-20 percent withtin the first day. This reduces to 7% after the second day and to 1% progressively on the third day. However, lithium batteries do not lose charge if stores outside the charger. Even if one is not using the battery, it is always good to recondition (charge and discharge) the battery regularly to enhance its life.

Finally, charging dewalt 18v batteries should no longer pose a challenge to you. Most of dewalt chargers, apart from DW9106, have been designed to work well with generators, thus no need to worry about the source of power anymore. Always remember that, battery maintenance both when in use and storage determines its life. Good maintenance like reconditioning will definitely enhance longevity.
